Croyde is known as the surfing capital of North Devon, with great family facilities and a vibrant atmosphere. The pretty village of Croyde is one of North Devon’s most renowned seaside locations, due to its excellent surf, beautiful scenery and vibrant village feel. As a surfing mecca, you’ll find numerous places to hire equipment and arrange lessons. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not explore the coast with an exhilarating coasteering session, or book yourself onto a rock pool ramble to discover more of the marine wildlife. After a day of fun, kick back and relax in one of Croyde’s legendary pubs with a local ale, or for a unique experience why not try out the “Deckchair Cinema”.
Croyde Beach, Putsborough Beach, Saunton Sands and Wollacombe Beach
The National Trust’s Baggy Point headland and surrounding area make for some world class coastal walking that link all three beaches that surround our cottage; Croyde, Putsborough and Saunton Sands. The breath taking 11k circular walk which starts from right beside the cottage is one of the most wonderful activities to take on with the whole family when staying at Mountain Ash House. Further afield but easily accessible is the super long beach walk from Putsbourgh to Wollacombe.
All of the beaches have something to offer from surfing, walking, yoga, playing in the sand dunes to the UK’s favourite (summer) past time sunbathing.
Croyde is the closest beach to the house and takes about 10 minutes to get to on foot. The sheltered bay, on-site facilities and lifeguard presence make it a great family destination.
There are plenty of other activities nearby to keep you busy some of most popular include cycling on the tarka trail, horse riding, 36 holes of championship links golf at Saunton Sands, tennis in Barnstaple and even a family fun Dinosaur park in Coombe Martin.
